Roundtable discussion: What questions or concerns are you experiencing with students, or in your districts?


4:00-5:00 pm

Advocacy: Cheri Scylla is a Parent Advocate from CESA #1. She will discuss advocacy for our students and families.


Thursday evening: Dinner on you own. Feel free to go out as a large group or individually. A list of local restaurants will be provided at registration.

Concurrent sessions
Option 1: UEB: Julie Sumwalt, a braillist at WCBVI, will discuss the changes in the braille code and how they change the way we teach our students.


Option 2: Flash Sonar: Justin Louchart from World Access for the Blind will speak about Flash Sonar, an echolocation technique used by some people with visual impairments for orientation and mobility.


10:15-11:00 am

Concurrent Sessions

Option 1: Open Forum Discussion: Determining Vision Service Minutes: Claire P. Egan, TVI, School Age Manager at Vision Forward, will facilitate a discussion surrounding how we determine service time for our students. Please bring questions and any tools you currently use.


Option 2: Open Forum Discussion: Determining O&M Service Minutes: Kathryn Koppa, TVI and O&M intern at Vision Forward, will facilitate a discussion surrounding how we determine service time for our students. Please bring questions and any tools you currently use. 


11:15 am-12:15 pm

DVR: Suzanne Walter will speak regarding vocational preparation, beginning the DVR process, and transition.

 

12:15-1:00 pm

Lunch

 

1:00-2:00 pm

Tech Lab: Cory Ballard, Assistive Technology Specialist, and Susan Eggold, Retail and Outreach Manager, from Vision Forward will give a presentation of the updated Tech Lab. They will also open the floor for questions and ideas of what we, as vision professionals, would like to see in the lab in the future.

 

2:00-2:45 pm

The Therapist’s Perspective: Pediatric therapists with medical and school backgrounds will present on how occupational, physical, and speech therapy can help our students and how we can collaborate.

 

2:45-3:30 pm

Ocular Research: Dr. Carroll, from the Eye Institute in Milwaukee, will talk about the latest research in advanced ocular imaging and how it relates to our students and their futures.

 

3:30-3:45 pm

Wrap up: A Certificate of Attendance will be available if you would like one.
